First, let me thank Patricia Leavy for doing her own work to show that “social fictions” have an important place in the social sciences. Then also for responding to The Daddies manuscript with “Wow. Oh wow.” And meaning it in a good way. For all of those who reviewed this book in process and offered comments, Teresa Bergen, Carol McGrath and Lucy Aphramor in particular. Also, writing communities are super-important to me and to many others. I started writing The Daddies at CSU Summer Arts in 2008, continued at Vermont Studio Center in 2010 and finished at Djerassi in 2011. I was in residence at Dickinson House in 2017 when I received support to send out this previously rejected manuscript just a few more times. Thank you, thank you, thank you. This book was also significantly inspired by bell hooks’ writing, in particular The Will to Change.
