Subject Highlights

This essay focuses on somaesthetics in relation to high culture and popular culture, examining first the overlap between high art and medicine (in the work of Stelarc, orlan, and Mona Hatoum), but then shifting to the level of popular culture by examining some connections and overlaps between cosmetics and medicine. Somaesthetics, I argue, can help people to rediscover psychosomatic unity, and if its message could be spread into the field of cosmetic practices, it could mend the gap that exists between the medical and aesthetic fields.
