Legal Order in the World’s Oceans: un Convention on the Law of the Sea is part of a series of publications on oceans law and policy produced by the Center for Oceans Law and Policy, University of Virginia School of Law. This volume is based primarily on presentations made 27–28 June, 2016, at the Center’s 40th Annual Conference which was held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The primary organizers for this Conference were the Center for Oceans Law and Policy in cooperation with the Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea (doalos) and the Office of Legal Affairs of the United Nations. We are especially grateful to doalos Director Gabriele Goettsche-Wanli and her staff for their generous assistance.
