1. This is not quite correct: consider the child who wishes he were born three months earlier so he could enter first grade together with his best friend. But then he is not concerned about duration—he might equally well wish that his friend were born three months later.
2. In KD 20 Epicurus also talks about a "complete life" (in the translation of Long and Sedley, p. 150. The Greek word is actually 1tIXV'tEÀ1Íc;, not Aristotle's Te�e�o5). On the most plausible interpretation, he means by this a completely pleasant life. Obviously, the inference from complete pleasure to complete life, if intended, would be fallacious.
