After ten years of outstanding editorial work, Ryan Szpiech (University of Michigan) has stepped down as the executive editor of Medieval Encounters. Ryan took over in 2013, following the retirement of Cynthia Robinson (Cornell University) from the role, and under his editorship, Medieval Encounters has continued to flourish. The journal has published prolifically over the last decade, increasing its annual output to approximately 550 pages, spread across 6 issues. Ryan also oversaw the celebrations for the journal’s milestone 25th volume in 2019, penning a fascinating reflection on the first quarter-century of Medieval Encounters.1

Every new editor brings new research interests to a journal, and Ryan’s editorship has proven no different. Recent years have seen the publication of significant work dedicated to religious interaction and polemical writing, as well as continued expansion of the range of geographical and thematic coverage that the journal offers. We would like to thank Ryan for his hard work in maintaining the high standards of the journal and in developing it further as the leading forum for new research on exchange, dialogue, and confluence in the Middle Ages. We are delighted that Ryan will remain involved in Medieval Encounters as a member of the editorial board.

We are pleased to announce that Uriel Simonsohn (University of Haifa) has been appointed as the new executive editor of Medieval Encounters, and has already taken up the role with great enthusiasm and diligence. We warmly welcome Uriel and wish him all the best in this position. We also take this opportunity to thank Uriel and Gerard Wiegers (University of Amsterdam) as outgoing reviews editors, and to welcome the two new reviews editors, Monica Colominas Aparicio (University of Groningen) and John Zaleski (Loyola University Maryland), along with Jessie Sherwood (University of California, Berkeley) as the new assistant editor. Our thanks are further due to the outgoing members of the editorial board for their efforts during their tenure, and we welcome the new members joining the editorial board as of volume 29.
