The Yearbook is the English journal of the IPDM–Instituto Português de Direito do Mar (The Portuguese Institute of the Law of the Sea), a non-profit association dedicated to the study and promotion of the Law of the Sea in Portugal and in Portuguese speaking countries.
The Yearbook is an open-accessed peer-reviewed journal published in English that focuses on all aspects of the Law of the Sea. The journal includes three sections:
i. In-depth scholarly articles and short articles;
ii. Current legal developments (analysis of international agreements, state practice, international and regional organizations, case law (international and national), domestic legislation and other occurrences deem relevant); and
iii. Book reviews.
The current legal developments will focus essentially on Portuguese speaking countries: Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, Sao Tome and Principe and Timor-Leste, as well as the territory of Macau in the PRC. These are all coastal States, located in almost every maritime region of the world: the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian Ocean, and the greater Asia-Pacific region. These States are also important flag and port States, and include the only two archipelagic Western African States. They are also members of several RFMO’s and regional seas programmes, in addition toother important regional instruments and frameworks.
